Guyana's Region Three Chamber to Launch Junior Chamber of Commerce in September

The Region Three Chamber of Commerce and Industry (R3CCI) announced the launch of a Junior Chamber of Commerce in September 2025. Unveiled at BIT’s Try-A-Skill Exhibition, the initiative aims to equip young people with entrepreneurial skills, mentorship, and leadership training to drive regional development.

-- The Region Three (Essequibo-Islands) West Demerara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (R3CCI) is proud to announce the upcoming launch of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a new initiative set to officially open in September 2025, aimed at empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs and civic leaders in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara region.

The announcement was made on July 30, 2025, during the Board of Industrial Training’s (BIT) Try-A-Skill Exhibition held at the West Central Mall—a landmark event that brought youth, business leaders, and educators together to explore hands-on trades and career pathways. Speaking at the exhibition, Mr. Theon Alleyne, Secretary and Public Relations Officer of R3CCI, declared:

“Guyana is experiencing transformative growth, with unprecedented opportunities for every young person to elevate their quality of life.” He continued, “We’re pioneering a groundbreaking Junior Chamber of Commerce that will revolutionise how young people understand and engage with business.”

The new Junior Chamber will provide structured mentorship, practical business training, leadership development, and direct exposure to real-world commerce. Designed for youths aged 16-30, the program complements existing TVET and academic efforts by rooting entrepreneurial ambition in civic responsibility.

“Our commitment is clear,” Alleyne added. “We’re not just supporting youth, we’re empowering the next generation of leaders by not only providing them with a seat at the table, but also the tools, skills, and guidance to build their own table, and turn their potential into success.”

Hosted by BIT, the Try-A-Skill Exhibition gave students and visitors an opportunity to learn about and test trades like commercial food preparation, electrical installation, joinery, and heavy-duty equipment operation—all of which are critical to Guyana’s evolving labour force.

In attendance were key regional and civic leaders, including:

Mr. Richard Maughn, CEO of the Board of Industrial Training

Mr. Devanand Ramdatt, Regional Executive Officer

Mr. Mitchroy Garnett, Chairman of the Lust-en-Rust Community Development Council

Mr. Junior Cambridge, Administrator of the Fellowship Practical Institution Centre

Representatives from the Ministry of Labour, Region Three Department of Education, and other stakeholders

BIT’s CEO Richard Maughn shared a powerful reminder:

“The impact of this event may not be fully known until five or six years from now, when someone looks back and says—‘that’s where it all began.’”

The Try-A-Skill event also spotlighted BIT’s tangible investments in Region Three, including the imminent launch of a new training centre in Tuschen, made possible through national support and regional leadership. The exhibition was not just a display of skills—it was a call to action for greater investment in youth readiness.

The R3CCI applauds BIT and the Ministry of Labour for the vision demonstrated at this event. The formation of the Junior Chamber represents a continuation of that same vision—one that sees young people not just as future workers, but as future business owners, innovators, and regional leaders.
